funk." In Saipan it was 30 degrees celcius with blue skies. It would rain at night just enough to freshen the morning air, Upon
arriving back in Tokyo it was 10 degrees celcius and drizzling
rain for several days. Life returned to its usual daily routine.
I was less than pleased about this turn of events. It was even a
chore to go on my usual morning bike ride.
I'm a creature of habit who hates routines. By this I mean that
by habit I'm always punctual, often early for appointments and
scheduled meetings with friends and associates. It's in my DNA,
I suppose. By hating routines, I have a particular quirk to my
nature. There are 5 routes between my local train station and
my home. I find it nearly impossible to take the same route two
days in a row. I feel compelled to alternate them. Maybe this
is due to an ancestral aspect to my genome?
In any case, I felt useless. Then the morning bicycle cure
took over. One particular dreary morning I saw one of the
regular dog-walkers taking his yellow labrador out for a
stroll. The dog was wearing a plaid raincoat. I commented
that labradors love water. The man answered me in English
that his wife makes the dog wear a raincoat so it doesn't
get the floor to their house too wet. The man & I talked
about dogs for about 30 minutes. I then stopped at a local
convenience store to get a newspaper. A woman who teaches
at a nearby music school was having problems with the photo
copy machine. I helped her make her copies. Later she asked
me to correct the English on a letter she was writing to
her American friend. Her friend worked for Disney. The
next day she gave me a bag containing the Disney dwarf
band members pictured with this blog.
I didn't feel so useless after that and the damp weather
didn't seem to matter.
